Harrison had “rapid wealth growth” due to his work as a high-paid lobbyist at the Podesta Group where he lobbied for a hedge fund that foreclosed on South Carolinians and Hurricane Katrina victims.
U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham’s (R-South Carolina) campaign launched its latest television and digital ad entitled, “Home.”
The ad focuses on Harrison’s high-paid position as Associate Chairman of the DNC, the fortune he amassed while working at the liberal lobbying giant, the Podesta Group, and his shameful representation of Fortress Investment Group. Harrison lobbied for Fortress even though they had a shady reputation in the subprime loan industry, including foreclosing on homes of South Carolinians and Hurricane Katrina victims. Sue Berkowitz, a longtime consumer advocate in South Carolina once said of Green Tree Financial, a subsidiary of Fortress, “They’re horrible, disgusting, slimy.”
The horrid business practices were so well known that then-Sen. John Edwards (D-NC), who was running for president in 2007, came under fire for his close ties to Fortress. Undaunted by their bad reputation and the harm they caused South Carolinians, Harrison took on Fortress as a lobbying client anyway.
“Jaime Harrison lobbied for a company which infamously foreclosed on Hurricane Katrina victims and South Carolinians,” said T.W. Arrighi, Communications Director for Team Graham. “While running $10 million of tv ads, Mr. Harrison has never mentioned that he made a fortune lobbying for the Podesta Group for eight years – and now we know why. He shamefully took money from a ‘horrible, disgusting, slimy’ company and looked the other way.”
