Harrison asks who would kick people out of their homes during a national emergency?
Harrison’s lobbying client, that’s who.
U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham’s (R-South Carolina) campaign launched its latest television and digital ad entitled, “That’s Who.”
The ad focuses on Harrison’s record as a lobbyist and a recent tweet asking, “What kind of country kicks people out of their homes during a pandemic?” While working at the liberal lobbying giant, the Podesta Group, Harrison shamefully lobbied for Fortress Investment Group even though they had foreclosed on homes of Hurricane Katrina victims and 130 South Carolina families. Sue Berkowitz, a longtime consumer advocate in South Carolina once said of Green Tree Financial, a subsidiary of Fortress, “They’re horrible, disgusting, slimy.”
The horrid business practices were so well known that then-Sen. John Edwards (D-NC), who was running for president in 2007, came under fire for his close ties to Fortress. Undaunted by their bad reputation and the harm they caused South Carolinians, Harrison took on Fortress as a lobbying client anyway.
“Before launching attacks at others, Jaime Harrison should look in the mirror,” said T.W. Arrighi, Communications Director for Team Graham. “While he claims he wants to protect families from being thrown out of their homes during the COVID-19 pandemic, Harrison lobbied for a firm that shamefully foreclosed on the homes of Hurricane Katrina victims in the wake of one of the largest natural disasters to affect our country. South Carolina deserves better than a Senate candidate who says one thing now but did the opposite as a lobbyist to cash in.”
